Our stories — Kevin and Jeanilyn
Kevin R. Nelson
I proudly consider myself an “amateur” in the critical sense promoted by Edward Said—a human being who draws extensively upon experts and scholars without surrendering to them the task of explaining the world and its structures. My work ranges across philosophy, anthropology and ethnographic research, mythology, history, critical theory, social psychology and cognitive neuroscience.
Before retiring from healthcare and government regulatory oversight, I published two articles in Nutrition Science News: one on international public health and another proposing an alternative heart-healthy diet. I also self-published Take Charge of Your Medical Care, a guide to navigating modern health systems.
Since 2016, I have devoted myself full-time to exploring the human condition and the roots of disconnection and injustice. My most recent book, Reality Unedited: The Naturalistic Perspective, was published by Gatekeeper Press. In 2026, Resilience published my six-part essay series examining the 6,000-year ontological history—or “ontohistory”—of Civilization. The complete series can be found here.
I have traveled extensively and currently live in central Peru with my muse, Jeanilyn, and the RBP’s two relational being consultants, Bella and Nacho, who kindly took us in.
Jeanilyn
I am from the island of Leyte in the Philippines, but I have now lived in Armenia, Colombia and Peru. I speak four languages and just delight in reading. I also enjoy the technical side of things and manage this website and produce its TikTok videos.
I am a self-taught photographer who does portrait sessions, but my real passion is artistic work and editing. I am currently working on a project about children in central Peru. I especially admire two great Peruvian photographers, Baldomero Alejos and Martín Chambi. I am also very interested in traveling the world and engaging with different cultures.
Finally, I am deeply passionate about securing justice for my homeland, which I believe remains in many ways essentially a colony of the United States. I will be working with Kevin on a series of blogs exploring this history and its continuing consequences.
